The Book of Awesome...

and other random things. 

Most of you have probably heard of this by now, but if not, you have to go check out 1000awesomethings.com or go buy the book.  I found the website a couple of months ago and then bought the book and they are both great.  Seriously, we were reading it on our last plane ride and kept laughing out loud.  A few of my favorites from the book are: 

getting into a bed with clean sheets after shaving your legs

getting something with actual handwriting on it in the mail

laughing so hard you make no sound at all

the smell of freshly cut grass

really, really old Tupperware

Another fun website you might have seen is awkwardfamilyphotos.com.  If you need a laugh, go check it out.  I'm sure most of us have some family pictures we could add to their collection!  I know we do.  Someday if I'm brave enough I might even post one here.

And last, there is a comedian named Anita Renfroe who has some hilarious music videos on her website.  Just go to anitarenfroe.com/media/ and click on videos.  All of them are funny, but I like All the Wrinkled Ladies the best.  I laughed so hard at that one!

Independence Day

We had a great 4th of July this year.  Saturday the 3rd we had some friends over for a bbq and I made these yummy cupcakes.  I thought they turned out really cute!  Then we went into town to hear the symphony's patriotic concert for free.  We missed the beginning, but I really enjoyed what we did get to hear.  We are learning that Texas is a very patriotic state to live in, especially when we hear the songs "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and "God Bless the USA".  The concert also included music of the Beach Boys, a military medley, and ended with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture complete with cannons.

The Texas Tenors sang!  Some of you might remember them from last year's America's Got Talent.  I think they placed in the top 10 or so of that competition.

Girls' Camp

I am the Mia Maid Advisor in our new ward (over the 14-15 yr old girls) and so I was able to go to Girls' Camp a couple of weeks ago.  It was held at a pretty nice Boy Scout camp.  We slept on cots in tents and had bathrooms and showers right next to our campsite.  This was my first camping experience in Texas and I was worried about the heat, but because of hurricane Alex it rained the whole time I was there.  I didn't mind the rain though b/c the weather was about 15 degrees cooler than normal.  The girls were great and stayed positive even when some of their stuff got soaked and they couldn't go canoeing on the lake b/c of the rain.  We still had fun being inside playing games (big booty, anyone?), making crafts, painting our fingernails, and singing tons of crazy camp songs (which were stuck in my head for days afterward).  I was happy to get to know the young women better and also the leaders since we stayed up almost as late as the girls every night talking and laughing!

Best of all, I was only mistaken as one of the girls a couple of times!  Yay, I guess I finally looked like a leader, even though I didn't feel like one.  It's hard for me to remember that I'm not one of the young women anymore.  When I went to camp three years ago nobody believed that I was a leader.  Remember that, Emily?  (If you're still reading my blog!)  Good memories!  :)  Anyone else going camping this summer?

Summer Vacation, Part 3: The Reception

Sorry it's taken me so long to finish up with the wedding reception pictures, but here they are.  It was so fun to be together with my family and see old friends I hadn't seen in several years.  There was so much food and I ate my fill of cheese, shrimp, eclairs, candy, and chocolate-dipped fruit.  Yum!

Heather's friend danced for everyone and it was beautiful.  She had Will and Heather dance for us too which was so funny.  (I took video but haven't gotten it to work yet with my computer.)
