Jacob had Good Friday off of work, so in keeping with tradition from last year we decided to go camping with the Cheneys again! We had a few more days to prepare this time though.
Katie relaxing on the drive up to Double Lake campground. It was a beautiful drive through the forest. Since we don't have any mountains around, at least we have plenty of trees, right? Also, we had beautiful weather. It was the perfect mild temperature for camping.
Jacob and Ben set up the tents...
while Stacie and I set up the kitchen/dining room :)
I kept an eye on the girls while Stacie started the fire.
I guess Stacie actually learned something at Girls' Camp!
in our little tent
Ada wanted to join us :)
Once our camp was set up, we feasted on our hot and non-burned (yay!) tinfoil dinners filled with hamburger and roasted veggies. Jacob and I haven't been eating sugar lately so we enjoyed fresh pineapple, grapes, and strawberries for dessert. I didn't even miss those roasted marshmallows (almost).
Katie and Ada loved sitting in the camp chairs. They also had fun scaring their mommies by occasionally walking too close to the fire pit. (To me this is the most stressful part of camping with a toddler.)
We took an evening stroll down by the peaceful lake.

We were able to relax around the fire for a while that night before the dreaded event arrived...
Bedtime
Oh boy, I don't think we fully realized what we were in for with these little girls. Ada went to bed first and the rest of us followed about an hour later. Katie slept between Jacob and I in our sleeping bag. Although she didn't want to be in it, only on top. She cried for about 15 minutes before finally going to sleep. Three hours later we were jolted awake by Katie crying. I don't know why she woke up, but it woke the rest of us as well, including Ada. Our tents were right next to each other. Ada never went back to sleep after that, even though our family did. Well, after Katie woke up completely and we all had to get out to go use the restroom at 3:30 in the morning. Then Katie thought it was time to play. We had to give her some milk to calm her down and she finally fell asleep again. The Cheneys ended up going home at about 4 am. We didn't even hear them leave so we were surprised in the morning that they were gone. They felt bad for abandoning us, but we understood.
We took our time eating breakfast and cleaning up the campsite.
We took another little walk down by the lake.
At least Katie was still smiling even after our rough night.
I loved being with my family and our friends, even though the night time wasn't very successful. Hopefully it will get easier as Katie gets older!
