On Memorial Day this year, we visited the San Jacinto Monument, which is a little bit east of Houston. The Battle of San Jacinto is where Texas won its independence by defeating Santa Anna's Mexican troops in 1836. The monument stands at 570 feet and is the tallest stone column memorial in the world. It's also 15 feet taller than the Washington Monument. We toured the museum in the base of the structure and then rode the elevator to the top.

There were tiny little frogs all over the place down at the reflecting pool.

Other than getting a little lost on our way there (we are not the best with directions), it was a great day. It was so nice to spend time together as a family celebrating Memorial Day.

We visited Battleship Texas just a couple days after that, but didn't make it to the Memorial. That will be for another trip! I didn't know it was so tall and you could ride the elevator. So cool!
